Being physically active is vital at every stage of life whether you are preventing disease, promoting health or improving overall well-being.
According to the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey (BRFSS), over 71% of Delaware adults are obese and overweight. In addition, Delaware adults reported a number of chronic disease risk factors including high cholesterol, diabetes, arthritis, and depression. Nearly a quarter of Delaware adults report participation in enough aerobic and muscle strengthening exercise to meet the current Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans.
In collaboration with national, state and local agencies, community partners and volunteers throughout the State of Delaware, the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension works to improve access to safe, affordable and accessible physical activity opportunities to Delawareans.
Walk with Ease
Taking part in the Walk With Ease evidence-based fitness program helps improve your overall health. Created by the experts at the Arthritis Foundation, this basic introductory level program is for people who are new or returning to exercise. Over 6 weeks of self-paced virtual education, you will learn how to set up a basic fitness program and make physical activity part of life! Motivational weekly topics include goal planning, stretching, strength exercises, overcoming barriers, the importance of hydration and how to fuel your body for physical activities. An activity tracker (smart phone or pedometer) and the commitment to at least 3 days per week of physical activity is recommended as part of the program. Optional Zoom check-ins will be available.
