Bridging Design and Manufacturing: Meet Alumnus Rich Hayburn
January 12, 2026 | Written by Horn EntrepreneurshipRelay Manufacturing was founded by Rich Hayburn, a University of Delaware Class of 2020 graduate who studied Mechanical Engineering with an Integrated Design minor, along with a math minor and manufacturing concentration. While at UD, Rich leaned into Horn Entrepreneurship through Summer Founders, NSF I-Corps, and VentureOn, experiences that helped him turn hands-on problem solving into a growing business.
Horn Entrepreneurship serves as the creative engine for entrepreneurship education and advancement at UD.
Built and actively supported by successful entrepreneurs, Horn Entrepreneurship empowers aspiring innovators as they pursue new ideas for a better world.
Horn helps students gain knowledge, skills, firsthand experiences, and connections needed to realize their potential and successfully adapt to rapid change. Horn is committed to supporting student success and cultivating a lifelong community of collaboration, connections and impact.
Why study entrepreneurship?
Entrepreneurship is crucial for economic growth and innovation. It leads to the development of new products and services which benefit communities, consumers, and societal challenges. Entrepreneurship education teaches you how to adapt and thrive amidst rapid change, recognize opportunities, and leverage connections and resources. As a top 50 entrepreneurship program, Horn Entrepreneurship has a university-wide initiative to work with and within all areas of study at the university.

We are a team of dedicated people who believe that entrepreneurship education can change individual lives, our community and the world. Our team consists of PhDs, experienced entrepreneurs and entrepreneurially minded individuals. We provide a small school experience within a large research university.
