Transfer Graduate Courses

ACROSS UD UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE RECORDS

4+1, 3+2, Graduate Certificate, and traditional Masters

This section outlines the policies for Graduate-level courses - taken while an Undergraduate - to potentially count toward a UD Graduate degree. It also covers 3+2 students with courses taken while a Graduate student that would count toward an Undergraduate degree.

Types of courses

  • Dual Count: Graduate-level courses taken by students

    • In a 4+1 or 3+2 program that fulfill requirements for both an Undergraduate and Graduate degree

    • Or for an Undergraduate earning a Graduate Certificate.

  • Additional, non-Dual-Count: Courses which only fulfill a requirement for the Graduate degree.

What courses are allowed to Dual Count

  • Each 4+1 program allows a certain number of Graduate-level credits taken while an Undergraduate to fulfill requirements for both degrees.

  • Each 3+2 program allows a certain number of Graduate-level credits to also count toward their Undergraduate degree.

  • Every Graduate Certificate program allows students to Dual Count Graduate-level courses toward requirements for both the Undergraduate degree and the Certificate.

  • The # of credits and/or list of courses is set in the academic catalog for the year the student is matriculated to the 4+1, 3+2  or Certificate (select the correct year from the dropdown at the top).

  • Students in a traditional Masters program may not Dual Count courses.

Requirements for both Dual Count and non-Dual-Count

  • Minimum grade

    • Dual Count: Earn a minimum grade of C- (or higher if required by your program per the catalog).

    • Non-Dual-Count: Earn a minimum grade of B- (or higher if required by your program per the catalog).

    • Courses taken Pass/Not Pass are generally not transferable. Exceptions may be considered by the Graduate College - before the course is taken - based on a program’s requirements. Contact gradstudentforms@udel.edu

  • Taken no more than 5 years before the term matriculated to the Graduate program.

  • Taken at the 600-level or above, with the student performing at the Graduate-level.

  • Courses at the 500-level

    • 4+1’s: do not transfer per Graduate policy.

    • 3+2’s, Graduate Certificates, traditional Masters: Transferable with approval from your Graduate Program Coordinator.

  • Courses taken for 0 credits are not eligible to transfer. Graduate program coordinators may submit a course waiver in Stellic.

  • Note that credits, grades and quality points will transfer across the Undergraduate and Graduate records, counting in both GPAs.

Specific requirements for additional, non-Dual-Count courses

  • Non-Dual-Count courses may not be used to satisfy an Undergraduate degree requirement, defined as follows: major, minor, Breadth, nor total # of cr. required for the Bachelors.

  • Additionally, for students admitted to a Graduate program in Fall 2026 or beyond: courses which fulfill an Honors degree requirement would be in the Dual Count category.

  • No more than 9 additional credits are allowed to transfer to a Graduate degree (including Graduate-level courses taken elsewhere, taken while a UD Undergraduate, or previously taken through CEND). Exceptions are rare, would need documentation, and are at the discretion of the Graduate College.

  • Students admitted to a Graduate master’s degree program in Fall 2026 and beyond must also complete at least 18 cr. while a Graduate student to satisfy Residency.

For more information

  • Graduate transfer credit policies are outlined in the current catalog: Academic Regulations for Graduate Students >> Courses and Credits >> Transfer of Credits. Also check detailed requirements in the College sections for each 4+1, 3+2, or Graduate Certificate program.

Timing for submitting the form

  • 4+1s and Graduate Certificate students: Do the steps below at the beginning of your final Undergraduate semester (the semester when you will complete your Bachelor’s degree).

  • 3+2 students: Do the steps below after completing the courses which will transfer to your Undergraduate record.

Meet with your Graduate program coordinator

  • Discuss which courses you have taken (or are now taking) that may internally transfer to count toward both degrees, or toward an Undergraduate degree and Graduate Certificate.

  • For students matriculated to a 4+1, 3+2, or a Graduate Certificate: Review the # of credits and/or list of courses which may Dual Count, outlined in the catalog for the year you were matriculated to the Graduate program.

  • For all students: Review any additional (non-Dual-Count) courses eligible to internally transfer to your Graduate record. Make sure these meet the UD policies outlined in Step 1.

Submit the Internal Graduate Transfer Credit (IGTC) form

  • Complete and save the fillable PDF IGTC form

  • Email it to your Graduate program coordinator.

  • In the subject line, include your full name, UDID, and “Request to Internally Transfer Graduate Credit”.

Next steps - In your department

  • Your Graduate program coordinator will review your IGTC form.

  • If they approve of your request, they will forward the form to the Graduate College with their approval.

Next steps - Graduate College

  • The Graduate College will review your IGTC, ask questions if needed, and then add it to a queue for processing by the Registrar’s Office.

Posting timeline - Registrar’s Office

  • 4+1s: Your internally transferred credit will appear on your Graduate record before the start of your first Graduate term. Do not panic if you do not see the credits transferred before you complete your Undergraduate degree.

  • Graduate Certificate and 3+2s: Your transfer credit will appear on UD record at the time you complete your Undergraduate degree.

  • Due to high volume, the Registrar’s Office cannot confirm when your credits have posted. Check UDSIS and/or Stellic for updates. In UDSIS: go to Grades and Transcripts >> Transfer Credit Report.

Note - Assistant Dean review for non-Dual-Count courses

  • If requesting to internally transfer additional (non-Dual-Counted) courses taken while an Undergraduate, your Asst. Dean will confirm that the credits were not used to satisfy Bachelor’s degree requirements (major, minor, Breadth, Honors, nor total # required).

  • If the Asst. Dean has questions or needs additional information, they will contact your Graduate program coordinator.

  • The Registrar’s Office works with each College to review this. There is nothing you need to do.
