CPL FOR UD NONCREDIT CREDENTIALS
Starting in Fall 2026, matriculated students may be eligible to earn up to 3 UD credits from a UD Noncredit Credential if approved by a UD academic department. Students may earn a maximum of 9 UD credits (from a combination of UD Credentials) under this policy.
A UD Noncredit Credential may be a UD certificate, licensure, test, badge, microcredential, or college-level course which falls outside of UD’s current transfer credit requirements. Note that proposals are approved for all students, not for a single student case.
Proposals are submitted by individual academic departments, in conjunction with the noncredit-issuing unit at UD. Proposals may be approved for up to 7 years, but could be reevaluated by an academic department at any time. Eligible students must have matriculated to UD in or after Fall 2026. Students may have completed the Credential up to 5 years before matriculation or while pursuing their UD degree.
UD Noncredit Credential credits appear as “Test Credit” on a student record. Grades or scores may appear on an unofficial transcript, but not the official transcript, and will not count in the GPA. Credits satisfy Residency requirements in the degree audit. Students are responsible for requesting credit through the academic department. There is no fee to earn this type of CPL.

See the table below for UD Noncredit Credentials currently approved to earn UD credit through CPL. Eligible students will matriculate to UD in Fall 2026 through the term listed. Note that academic departments may reevaluate or discontinue approval at any time should the UD curriculum change.
To potentially earn credit for a UD Noncredit Credential, matriculated students must initiate the request by emailing the department contact noted below. Send the request from your udel.edu account, with this subject line: title of the UD Noncredit Credential, your name and UDID. In the message itself, include:
Your name, UDID, and term you matriculated to UD
The title of the Credential, date of completion, and what type of documentation you received (badge, certificate, etc.)
The UD course(s) and credit(s) to be earned per the table below
The UD unit that issued the Credential and a contact person for that program
After receiving your email, the department will work with the UD unit that issued your Credential to verify completion, confirm approval for the credits, and then notify both you and the Registrar’s Office by email. Registrar’s will store the documentation as part of your student record.
The Registrar’s Office will post credits in September (for Fall), February (for Winter/Spring), and June (for Summer). For questions about the Credential or the course(s) you may earn, email the department contact named below.
The following UD Noncredit Credentials are currently approved for credit. All newly approved proposals will be added to this page - check back for updates.

To propose credit for an existing UD Noncredit Credential (course or certificate)
An academic department sends a PDF of a proposal letter (on departmental letterhead from the chair’s udel.edu address) to the Registrar’s Office (registrar-cpl@udel.edu), signed by both the department chair/director and the official contact at the UD noncredit-issuing unit (usually PCS). The letter should confirm joint support for the following:
Each Credential title, earning what UD course(s) and credit(s) (max of 3 cr. per Credential, max of 9 cr. combined)
The first matriculation term when students would be eligible (no earlier than Fall 2026)
The year the departmental approval would expire (max of 7 years)
An official contact in the department or unit who could answer student questions (name/title/email)
The Registrar’s Office will review the proposal letter, address questions/concerns, build the approved UD Noncredit Credential in UDSIS, and publish relevant information to include credits earned for each Credential, who is eligible, what students need to do, whom to contact in the department, and when credits would post to a student record.
How students request credit & what departments do to approve it
To request credit for the UD Credential, matriculated students follow the process outlined in the section above. Official requests must come from the student, documented in email. The UD academic department works directly with the noncredit-issuing UD unit that issued the Credential to verify completion.
Once confirmed, the academic department emails each individual matriculated student to notify them of the verified completion, copying the Registrar’s Office (registrar-cpl@udel.edu) on the full email thread, including attachments provided by the department, unit, and/or student. The email should include the following:
Forwarded copy of the student’s original request
Student name, UDID, and term matriculated to UD
Title of the Credential, date of completion, and documentation evaluated (badge, certificate, etc.)
Unit that issued the Credential and the contact in the unit who verified completion
Course(s) and credit(s) to be earned, per the approved proposal
The Registrar’s Office will save the email and supporting documentation as part of the student’s official record.
Final steps
The Registrar’s Office will post credits every September (for Fall), February (for Winter/Spring), and June (for Summer).
