Final & Out of Class Exams

Tools & Resources
The Out of Class Exam schedule will be posted prior to the start of semester registration. Out of class exams are exams that are held for multiple sections of the same course at one common date and time, which appears as an additional meeting time from the regularly scheduled class time. An Out of Class (common) Exam is more than one course/section to be examined on the same day and time. A single section of a course is not eligible for an out of class exam.
Out of class exams may only be scheduled during the following times approved by the Faculty Senate:
Monday thru Friday 6:30pm to 8:30pm and Saturday 9:00am to 5:00pm.
A request to schedule an Out of Class Exam is made by submitting the form prior to the deadline. An exam will not be scheduled without completing the request form.
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are heavily requested days. We may not have the space to accommodate all exam requests on these days and may reach out to ask for alternative dates/days.
Check for common exam dates between courses that are likely to have students in common and work out your exam dates with the other department. Click here for Department scheduling contact information.
Exam dates are not confirmed until the tentative list has been sent. Please do not add out of class exam blocks in CLSS until the tentative list has been sent. Please refrain from adding exam blocks, for courses offering out of class exams, until the tentative schedule is sent. Adding the exam block prior interrupts the classroom assignment process.
Exam locations are determined based on the combined enrollment caps of the courses,
All exams are scheduled with double/alternate seating if space permits. We do not accept requests for any further space between students such as triple seating.
Each section of a combined exam will not be scheduled in an individual room nor will separate classrooms be assigned to each individual instructor if the sections are taught by multiple instructors.

Changes to the Out of Class Exam Schedule cannot be made once registration has begun, including scheduling new exams. It is important that students are aware of scheduled exams prior to registration to avoid conflicts.

We will not process final exam requests for specific dates or times. If the faculty member cannot be present to give their exam on their scheduled date, then they or their department will be responsible for finding an appropriate proctor.
Requests for a common, 3-hr, or common 3-hr exam should be made using the Final Exam Special Request Form by the designated deadline. Any special requests not received by the designated deadline will not be accommodated.
A common exam does not need to be requested for combined, dual-listed, or cross-listed courses that meet together during the semester.
A request for a three-hour exam will result in receiving an 8:00am-11:00am or 7:00pm-10:00pm exam period.
If you are unsure if an instructor would like to administer an exam during the 5-day final exam period, please mark the exam option as yes. It is easier to cancel an exam than to schedule a new one. New exams cannot be requested past the deadline and after the schedule has been posted.
Any course without enrollment will not be assigned an exam period. Contact our office if a course gets enrollment after the exam schedule is complete.
Exams for single sections will be held in the same classroom as the course met during the semester, including departmentally controlled classrooms.
All common final exams are scheduled for double/alternate seating if space permits. We do not accept requests for any further space between students such as triple seating for any exam or alternate seating for single sections.
