Research

The Beltran lab aims to harness the potential of synthetic biology in plants and microorganisms to address global challenges in agriculture, human health, and sustainability. Our approach involves reprogramming molecular modules to build tools capable of controlling on-demand biological functions. This process entails a systematic workflow that integrates basic biological knowledge with bioengineering approaches. Our expertise encompasses small molecule biosensor engineering, chemically controlled gene expression circuitry, and synthetic reprogramming of plant developmental and biochemical pathways. Through this robust interdisciplinary framework, we anticipate meeting the increasing demand for broad biotechnological solutions and nurturing the next generation of scientists within a supportive community.
