Service learning for the next generation

Service Learning, including Community Service activities and Civic Engagement, has always been a part of the 4-H program.
A survey by Tufts University found that 4-H’ers are four times more likely to make contributions to their communities and two times more likely to be civically active than youth not involved in 4-H. Delaware 4-H is always looking for new opportunities for our members to be involved in their community. Many positive factors result from youth involvement in service activities, such as increasing academic success, improving career and workforce readiness and being more likely to volunteer when they get older. We want to provide our 4-H members with as many service activities as possible.

To help encourage our 4-H members to take part in a variety of service activities, we have created a page on our Delaware 4-H website specifically for volunteer opportunities. There are listings of activities to do from home, including donations for our Operation Christmas Child project. We also have a list of more than 360 service ideas that Nebraska 4-H has come up with. These ideas are divided into fifteen different categories. Members and families can review these ideas and help their community in many different ways!
