    Developing leadership skills at the Delaware FFA State Convention at UD

    More than 700 middle school and high school students from across Delaware cultivated their passion for agriculture and honed their leadership skills at UD for the 2026 Delaware FFA State Convention. This was the second year in a row the FFA state convention was held at UD. The students practiced their public speaking skills, learned about agricultural marketing and communications, helped protect a creek from future flooding, and more.

    Eighteen Blue Hens were immersed in a four-week guided safari where they observed rhinos, lions, elephants, cheetahs, and many other animals up close in their natural habitats. During the Winter 2026 study abroad program, the intrepid students learned and saw firsthand how wildlife and people can thrive alongside each other.

    Honors plant science major Joseph Romano takes full advantage of UD’s undergraduate research opportunities. Romano studies the interaction between the fungus-like pathogen Pythium and maize plants with Qi Mu, assistant professor of molecular plant breeding and genomics. Romano joined Mu's lab during his first semester at UD.

Riding with technology

University of Delaware students enrolled in AGRI 130 spent their third Saturday field trip driving specialized farm equipment (combine and tractor) equipped with precision agriculture. With prices exceeding in some cases more than three-quarters of a million dollars, it was a unique hands-on experience.
