Accessible CANR

General Parking Information

• The building has its own parking lot called ‘Gray Lot – Lot 2’.
• The parking lot is pay-to-park with two payyment options.
  • Faculty, staff and students: Semester or year-long Gray Lot permits are available through UD Parking Services.
  • Visitors: Visitors may pay to park hourly using the Passport Parking mobile app. A smart phone and internet or cellular service connection is required. Signs on-site indicate your parking zone number.

Accessible Parking

• There are clearly-marked accessible parking spaces located in the rear parking lot: ‘Gray Lot – Lot 2’.
• Accessible parking space dimensions are 9’ x 18’.
• There is an adjacent marked access aisle to the side of the parking spaces. The adjacent access aisle dimensions are 6’ x 18’.

Route to the Entrance

• There is step-free access to the entrance from the accessible parking spaces, a curb ramp from the parking lot to the Worrilow Hall entrance.

Entrance Location

• This entrance is located in the front-center of Worrilow Hall, facing south toward Townsend Hall.
   

Accessible Route

• There is step-free access to the entrance from the accessible parking spaces in Gray Lot – Lot 2, a curb ramp from the parking lot to the Worrilow Hall entrance.
• All exterior entrances are accessed via a flat pavement pathway.
• The accessible entrance opens to the level, step-free first floor of the building.
• Accessible entrance gives direct access to the ground-level elevator, which provides step-free level access to all floors.

Entrance Doors

• The front entrance is accessible with double manual doors, of which one door has a door operator.
  • The exterior door operator button is at a height of 33 inches.    
• The double doors in the interior vestibule of the entrance also have one door operator.
  • The interior door operator buttons are at a height of 43 inches.
• The width of each individual door opening is 35 inches. A metal mullion bar connects ceiling to floor, separating the area between each of the two double-doors.
• The door opens towards you.

Entrance Flooring

• The front entrance vestibule is carpeted, while the interior floors are hard and smooth.

Building Layout

• There is one elevator and three stairwells in this building.
• The floors are signed: 1, 2, 3.

Hallways

• There are doors between stairwells and hallways that require a slight force to open.

• The floors along circulation routes are hard and smooth, predominantly consisting of vinyl composition tile.
• The floors in classrooms are hard and smooth vinyl composition tile.
• The front entrance vestibule is carpeted.

Locations

• There are step-free men’s and women’s restrooms located on each floor.
• There are accessible men’s and women’s restrooms on each floor.
• There is step-free level access to all restrooms via the elevator.
• Wall signage indicates restroom locations.

Accessibility

• There is Braille, pictorial, and written signage on or near all restroom doors.
• The door into the restroom opens inwards and requires some effort to open.
• There are door operators both inside and outside of the restroom for access.
  • The door operators are at a height of 44 inches.

Accessible Stalls

• The stall door opens outwards and is easy to open.
• The width of the stall door opening is 33 inches.
• The stall door has a slide-bolt lock.

Amenities

• Changing stations are located in the women’s restrooms.

• The Touchdown Space (Room 212) has desks and seating
• The Kitchenette (Room 209) has high-top tables and seating.
• The east end of the first-floor hallway features fold-down seating along the walls.

• An AED and Naloxone emergency kit are located between the restrooms on the first floor.
• First aid kits are located in every laboratory, classroom, or shared equipment room.

• Accessible Entrance (Rear-Center)
  • There is step-free access via curb ramp from the parking lot and accessible parking spaces to the Townsend Hall accessible entrance. 
  • This is located at the rear center of the building on the ground floor, which is partially below ground level.
• Non-accessible entrances
  • A second (non-accessible) rear entrance and a front entrance are reachable via a staired pathway (10+ stairs).
  • Four side entrances have single-stepped approaches that lead directly to the stairwells.
  • These entrances do not have ramp access to the hallways or elevator.

Accessible Route

• The accessible entrance, located at the rear of the building, has door operators and provides direct, step-free access to the interior annex, hallway and ground-level elevator, which serves all floors.     
  • The first and last steps up from the accessible entrance are marked with bright tape for increased visibility.
  • The elevator can be located by entering the Townsend Hall rear, central entrance (with door operators), passing through the double doors (with door operators), and turning right.

• The Townsend Commons / Lobby Area (Room 131) and staff offices have short pile carpeting.

Elevator

Location and Access

• There is one elevator located in the center of the building. 
• The accessible entrance gives direct access to the ground-level elevator, which provides step-free level access to all floors G, 1, and 2.
• To locate the elevator:
  • Enter the Townsend Hall rear, central entrance (with door operators).
  • Pass through the stairwell double doors (with door operators).
  • Turn right down the hall to the elevator.

Dimensions

• The elevator door opening is 42 inches.
• The internal dimensions of the elevator are 81.5 x 51.5 inches.

Controls & Features

• The elevator makes audio cues to alert individuals of arrival on the floor.
• The external elevator controls are at an accessible height of 42 inches.
• The internal elevator controls are at an accessible height of 36 inches.

Stairs

• Non-accessible entrances
  • A second (non-accessible) rear entrance and a front entrance are reachable via a staired pathway (10+ stairs).
  • Four side entrances have single-stepped approaches that lead directly to the stairwells.
  • These entrances do not have ramp access to the hallways or elevator.
• There are 20+ steps between floors.
• There are handrails on one side of each flight.
• The handrails cover all steps.
• The height of the first step is 7 inches.
• The minimum tread depth is 11 inches.
• All stairs in the building have handrails.

Locations

• There are step-free men’s and women’s restrooms located on each floor near the elevator with additonal restrooms located along the main hallways.
• There is an accessible, door-operated All-Gender Restroom located across from the elevator on the first floor (Floor "1" not Ground Floor "G").

Accessibility

• Each restroom has an accessible stall.
• There is step-free level access to the accessible, door-operated all-gender restroom (located across from the elevator on the first floor):
  • Enter the Townsend Hall rear, central entrance (with door operators).
  • Pass through the stairwell double doors (with door operators).
  • Turn right down the hall to the elevator.
  • Take the elevator to Floor 1.
  • The accessible, door-operated All-Gender Restroom will be in view across the hallway.

• Changing stations are located in first floor women’s restrooms and first floor All-Gender Restroom.

• There is a resting area in The Commons / Lobby area in the Floor 1, center of the building (Room 131) with a mixture of seating options.

The Wellness Room is located in Room 128 and can be used for:

• Meditation and prayer
• Lactation and breastfeeding support
• Stress relief and relaxation
