Delaware 4-H Celebrates National 4-H Week and the Launch of “Beyond Ready”

October 07, 2025 Written by: Ernesto Lopez, State 4-H Youth Development Program Leader

The month of October is a special time on the annual 4-H calendar as fall crops are being brought in from the fields and youth across Delaware are fully engaged in their new school year. From apple harvests in Bridgeville to community service projects in Brandywine Hundred, 4-H clubs are stepping up and stepping out into neighborhoods across the state and making a positive difference!

October 5 to 11, 2025

This October, National 4-H Week will be held from the 5th of the month through the 11th and during that time, Delaware 4-H members will be sharing the good news about Beyond Ready, our new national initiative focused on preparing 4-H youth for successful futures.  Whether ready for work or life, the framework for success in the Beyond Ready model puts 4-H youth in the driver’s seat on the road to achieving their goals.  A key focus of this framework will be cultivating the developmental context of the 4-H curriculum. With an embrace of four strategic areas:  engagement, belonging, relationships and sparks; the Beyond Ready model seeks to customize the strengths of youth towards successful outcomes and in turn, produce a generation of youth who are healthy, motivated and prepared to address the needs of an ever-changing world.

Beyond Ready

While 4-H clubs across Delaware will have varied ways to align Beyond Ready into their priorities, two main themes will become constant.  One, a focus on building skills for both work and life and the other, a focus on individualized support for post-secondary pathway development.  Aligning 4-H curriculum with academic and vocational pathways towards success will continue to be instrumental in the work of our 4-H agents and educators.  The success of our Delaware 4-H youth is central to the daily mission of 4-H educators.  Together, along with our 4-H volunteers, we will continue to strive to promote the health, well-being and achievement of every one of our members.

This October, as we celebrate National 4-H Week, we do so with a renewed gratitude and humility for the trust youth and their families place in us to make a positive influence in their lives.  For more information on joining Delaware 4-H as a youth or adult volunteer, call 302-831-2509.
