Students

The Climate Hub is committed to training climate leaders at all levels.

We work with educators (formal and informal) to provide tools, resources, innovations, and lessons for integrating climate change into a wide range of disciplines and for a wide range of audiences. We work with undergraduate and graduate students to build the skills they’ll need to think about climate change in their careers, no matter what their path. And we strive to develop a climate-ready workforce by providing professional development and experiential learning opportunities for students of all ages.

Climate Scholars

Climate Scholars

With nearly 100 students in 37 majors, Climate Scholars learn from faculty and partners across campus and the region and partner with communities to develop climate change innovations.

As a Climate Scholar, you’ll not only gain an understanding of the challenges we face, but you’ll create solutions to our changing climate. If you're an accepted students, click here to learn more and apply. Current UD students can apply via this Google form. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Climate Scholars are undergraduates from any major on campus who join an enrichment program to build community and the skills to lead sustainable solutions in every profession. The changing climate affects every aspect of life on the planet. To guide the world towards a more sustainable future, we need leaders who are ready to make a difference.

Scholars engage in a weekly seminar series, facilitate community discussions on climate change, research with UD faculty, lead student organizations across campus, collaborate with state and local officials on sustainability solutions, and host events such as board game nights, our annual Earth Day festival and clothing swap, and more!

Climate Fellows

Climate Fellows

A community for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows interested in all things climate change – science, policy, advocacy, justice, community engagement, art.

We welcome all disciplines and all stages of graduate study. Whether you’re a climatologist, a game designer or fashion designer, policy expert, or anthropologist, if you’re interested in climate, this is your community. To learn more, e-mail us or follow the Climate Fellows on Instagram.

The Climate Fellows connect graduate students with a passion for climate change research, education and activism and promote climate-forward initiatives on the University of Delaware’s campus in coordination with the Climate Change Science and Policy Hub.

Our goal is to foster interdisciplinary collaboration among graduate students interested in climate change, to raise the profile of graduate climate change research at UD, to build professional skills for climate change researchers and to engage with the UD and Delaware community to raise awareness and promote action.

What We Do

  • Connect graduate students across disciplines to help foster community building focused on climate change education, outreach and action.
  • Participate in campus and community activities focused on bettering our environment, such as coastal cleanups and horseshoe crab surveys, just to name a few.
  • Work with the undergraduate Climate Scholars program to provide mentorship in academic and outreach efforts.
  • Engage with the community to help foster a better understanding of the local impacts and challenges around climate change.

Why Join

Individual members will benefit from a sense of community, while also developing professional skills. By becoming part of a network of interdisciplinary researchers, students can gain deeper insight into their graduate research. Members will be able to experience specialized training in climate research and communication, as well as make connections with alumni and other professionals in order to enhance their understanding of the field and their career potential.

Membership Requirements

Members must be full-time graduate students in a graduate degree program at UD.

Sustainability Solutions Fellows

The Sustainability Solutions Fellows Program engages students in applied learning experiences that connect academic knowledge with real sustainability initiatives at the University of Delaware. Through interdisciplinary partnerships with campus offices, Fellows investigate opportunities to enhance campus sustainability while developing the research, collaboration, and professional skills needed to become future sustainability leaders.

Interested in becoming a Fellow or proposing a project? Email climatechangehub@udel.edu

Sustainability challenges rarely fit within a single discipline. Fellows learn to approach complex problems from multiple perspectives, work across areas of expertise, and translate research into solutions that are useful in a real-world setting. The experience challenges students to stretch beyond their academic preparation while building the collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills needed to advance sustainability solutions.

The program follows a collaborative, project-based model that mirrors professional consulting and interdisciplinary research.

  • Campus partners identify opportunities in collaboration with the Office of Sustainability and the Climate Change Hub where student research can add value.

  • Interdisciplinary student-led teams investigate the issue using research, data, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Fellows develop recommendations that are presented to campus partners and may inform future implementation.

The program welcomes undergraduate and graduate students from all majors who are interested in sustainability, collaboration, and applied problem solving.

As a Fellow, you will:

  • Apply classroom learning to real sustainability initiatives.

  • Work with campus professionals and interdisciplinary teams.

  • Build research, communication, and project management skills.

  • Develop a professional portfolio of applied sustainability work.

  • Contribute to projects that support a more sustainable campus.

Applications are accepted through TalentLink.

Green Laboratories

Supported development of recommendations that contributed to UD's Green Labs initiative, including certification strategies and sustainable laboratory practices.

Sustainable Transportation

Evaluated opportunities for fleet electrification and transportation planning that informed subsequent research into electrification of vehicles and tools for campus maintenance.

Finding High-Impact Opportunities for Campus Sustainability

Evaluated potential campus sustainability projects for impact, achievability, alignment with UD’s sustainability goals and available evidence, identifying building energy efficiency and stronger sustainability data as priorities for continued work.

AASHE STARS Gold planning and assessment

Performed an analysis of the University of Delaware’s current AASHE ranking and identified areas to improve documentation, data collection, and sustainable practices to work toward gold status. This program is piloting several initiatives this fall.

Have a sustainability opportunity or challenge that could benefit from an interdisciplinary student team?

The Sustainability Solutions Fellows Program welcomes project proposals from faculty, staff, and campus units interested in collaborating with students to explore innovative sustainability solutions.

Climate-Related Degrees

Climate change affects everything. Which is why Climate Scholars (undergraduates) and Climate Fellows (graduates) come from programs across the University of Delaware. For students who want climate change to be a core elment of their coursework, though, the programs listed below offer substantial training in the physical science, social science, humanities, and engineering aspects of climate change:
