Delaware teens travel to National LifeSmarts Competition
May 02, 2025 | Written by: Michele Walfred, Communications SpecialistFor the third year in a row, Delaware 4-H was well represented at the National LifeSmarts Competition, held this year in Chicago, IL, at the Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, April 24-27, 2025. This year’s competition marked the 31st anniversary of LifeSmarts, the youth consumer education program of the National Consumers League. Forty-six student teams from high schools and various student organizations traveled nationwide to compete in the four-day event. The 2025 Delaware team ended in a multi-way tie for 6th place. -

ChaseEven though the 2024-2025 migratory bird season is winding down, concerns about highly pathogenic avian influenza — commonly known as bird flu — remain. The public is paying attention. Consumers are experiencing volatility in egg prices and are concerned about food safety. Backyard birders are all a flutter. For poultry farmers and the scientific community committed to protecting them, it’s not a time to kick back and relax. The concern to control bird flu remains a 24-hour, 7-day a week, 365-day effort.
