IMPORTANT NOTEThe University of Delaware is required to comply with state and federal laws regarding the delivery of distance education. Please see the University’s State Authorization page for more information.

(Available to UD Didactic Program in Dietetics students only)

The University of Delaware participates in the preselect option for students from the Didactic Program in Dietetics at the University of Delaware. Please note that if preselected, you are NOT eligible to participate in the computer matching process for the yearly match. Students will be notified by the program director regarding their status. The DI program director will provide the name and e-mail address of all students preselected for the 2023 Spring Match to D&D Digital Systems, Inc. to ensure that they do not participate in the computer match. If you are NOT selected through the preselect process, you may reapply to this or any other dietetic internships through the computer matching process.

  1. DICAS application
The program is using the on-line centralized internship application DICAS, which may be accessed at https://page.liaisonedu.com/dicas/apply, e-mail DICASinfo@DICAS.org. The on-line application must be completed for our program by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on January 15, 2023. The fee to use DICAS is $50 for the first application submitted and $25 for each additional application. When completing the application form, applicants must include the name and contact information (specifically an e-mail address) for each of their 3 references. This will trigger an e-mail message requesting completion of a reference form. The form will be completed on-line. We recommend obtaining references from 2 faculty members and 1 work or volunteer supervisor. However, extensive work experience may warrant submission of 2 work references and 1 faculty reference. Please give careful consideration to the people you ask to write your recommendations. To give your application the best possible chance in a competitive environment, it is important that the people who furnish your references know you and can attest to your abilities and accomplishments. Applicants who apply to internships using DICAS will be asked to complete a personal statement. Questions to be addressed in the personal statement include:
    • Why do you want to enter the dietetics profession?
    • Discuss experiences that have helped you prepare for your career.
    • What are your short- and long-term goals?
    • What are your strengths and weaknesses or areas needing improvement?
    • What other information do you consider important for the selection decision?
    • The response to all 5 questions combined may not exceed 1,000 words.

Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended should be sent to: DICAS-Transcript Department, P.O. Box 9118, Watertown, MA 02472

  2. University of Delaware Graduate Application
In addition to submitting the DICAS application, all applicants will need to submit a University of Delaware Graduate Application and pay a supplemental fee of $35.00 (credit cards or checks accepted). Please do not mail the application fee to the dietetic internship program. Applicants do not need to upload recommendation letters as these will come from the DICAS application. Your DICAS personal statement can serve as the essay for this application as well. If you have any questions regarding this process, please email Anja Leefeldt, aleef@udel.edu). Submission of an unofficial transcript is required for the Graduate Application. * Please select the application for the Nutrition and Dietetics/Dietetic Internship MS/DI program, not the Dietetic and Nutrition Certificate Program.
  3. Supplemental Materials
The application checklist can be scanned in and uploaded as supplemental materials as part of the DICAS application, or emailed directly to the dietetic internship director, Anja Leefeldt at aleef@udel.edu by the application deadline.
  4. Interviews
Internship faculty may request an interview either in person or via Zoom.  Applicants interviewed via Zoom must have access to a webcam and microphone.

Please follow the instructions for Applicants to the Preselect Round. In addition, you will need to register with D&D Digital for computer matching.

  1. Computer matching with D & D Digital: Register online for computer matching at http://www.dnddigital.com/ and select dietetic internship priority choices by 11:59 p.m. Central Time on February 15, 2023. There is a $65 computer matching fee.
