    Blue Hen Makenzie Dowlin has received a Critical Language Scholarship to study Swahili in Tanzania. This ultra-competitive program supports the study of languages critical to U.S. national security and global engagement. For eight weeks, she will immerse herself in Swahili as a citizen diplomat.

    At the 2025 Delaware FFA State Convention, rows of students in their signature blue corduroy jackets gathered at University of Delaware’s Bob Carpenter Center to compete in professional competitions and connect with their peers. FFA allows students from elementary school through college to engage in agricultural activities and professional development that prepare them for careers across a variety of sectors. Students and teachers alike see FFA as a place to find belonging and community with those with similar interests and professional goals. The convention held this year at UD drew students from across Delaware to compete in various competitions and tour the campus to see if UD’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources was a good fit for them.

    University of Delaware alumna Monica Sterk knew she was destined to become a veterinarian. But after graduating from UD in 2013 with a degree in pre-veterinary medicine, she had no idea where her veterinarian journey would take her. General practice? Mixed-animal vet working with large and small animals? But after being hired as an emergency room veterinarian at a 24-hour hospital, her world turned upside down.

    Linking Aquaculture and Agriculture to RIsk Management Resources In 1977, on his family farm in Sussex County, Don Clifton, 19, discovered his younger brother David, 16, had suffered a fatal agricultural accident with a silage wagon. Clifton faced the unimaginable task of delivering that news to his father. Clifton now serves as Delaware’s Secretary of Agriculture and recalled that life-changing moment before a large audience attending Delaware’s first Aquaculture and Agriculture Health and Vitality Forum.
  • UD faculty members Mary Schorse and Chris Willliams aim to create educational sustainability modules for K-12 students in Delaware

    University of Delaware professors Mary Schorse, assistant research professor and director for the Delaware Center for Geographic Education and Chris Williams, professor of wildlife ecology, received several grants to implement a three-year education and outreach program bringing sustainability into Delaware’s K-12 classrooms, hoping to inspire students to explore jobs involving sustainability and address a growing need for sustainability skills in all sectors.

Cooperative Extension fulfills the third part of this mission: bringing knowledge to the people of Delaware. Today, we offer university knowledge, research and resources — just for you!

The UD College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Newark Farm is a testament to the college's more than 150 years of innovation and education. Covering 350 acres on the main campus, it's a hands-on learning hub for students and faculty, exploring animals, crops, wetlands, and greenhouses. Tradition meets research, shaping leaders in agriculture and beyond. Since Delaware became a land-grant university, the farm has focused on hands-on learning. Its impact extends beyond campus, supporting farmers, researchers, and policymakers statewide. Through programs like Cooperative Extension, we turn knowledge into action for a stronger economy, environment, and community.
