Research Communications
The Research Communications team is OCM’s strategic partner to the Research Office. We work in close collaboration with college communications teams to elevate UD’s profile as a nationally recognized Research 1 (R1) university. Together, we amplify the reach and impact of UD’s research enterprise — highlighting the people, discoveries, innovations, major grants, awards and facilities that drive scientific progress and societal benefit.
Have research news to share? Please reach out to your college or unit communications team (if you have one), a member of the Research Communications team, and/or email ocm@udel.edu.
Research Communications Team
What We Do
Strategic Partnerships
Provide communications and marketing expertise to the vice president for research, scholarship and innovation and the Research Office, which includes six units (federal relations, research administration, research development, regulatory affairs, corporate engagement and the Office of Economic Innovation and Partnerships), 11 centrally reporting research institutes and centers, two statewide research programs and 15 core facilities, as well as selected federally funded initiatives such as the NSF Accelerating Research Translation (ART) program. Oversee the Research Office website, the central hub for research news and resources, and manage the digital presence of the Science, Technology and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus — a nexus for discovery, education and industry partnerships.
Translational Storytelling
Collaborate with college communications teams in the publication of research news on UDaily, spotlighting discoveries, innovations, new institutes, major grants and scholarly achievements.
Signature Campaigns
Lead high-visibility multi-channel campaigns for Earth Week, National Inventors Month, Undergraduate Research Scholars and UD Innovation Ambassadors.
Research Community Updates
Produce internal biweekly federal funding updates and a monthly research newsletter to keep the UD research community informed and engaged.
Special Events
Manage communications for major research events, including UD Day in D.C., Inventors Recognition, University-wide research symposia and public STEM events with nationally known speakers.
Training Programs
Present communications workshops that help UD researchers connect their work to broader audiences with clarity and impact.
National Communications
Play a leadership role in URMA, the professional development association for research communicators, and serve as the University’s communications liaison with federal research agency communicators.
