April 24-25: UD Botanic Gardens Annual Spring Benefit Plant Sale
April 06, 2026
Annual benefit sale features Viburnums, Penstemons and much more
The University of Delaware Botanic Gardens (UDBG) invites the public and the University community to shop at the UDBG Annual Spring Benefit Plant Sale Friday, April 24, from 3 to 6 p.m. through Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Now in its 34th year, this sale features more than 500 plant varieties, including trees, shrubs, perennials, houseplants, herbs and veggies.
The 2026 featured woody plant genus is Viburnum. The sale boasts a dozen different varieties, including our beautiful native Arrowwood Viburnum and Smooth Viburnum, whose berries are well loved by native birds. UDBG is also highlighting a wide variety of selections from the herbaceous genus Penstemon (beardtongue). These rabbit and deer-resistant perennials boast spikes of flowers loved by pollinators and hummingbirds throughout the late spring and summer in shades of white, red, pink, purple and blue.
All plant sale purchases directly support the gardens and programs, enabling UDBG to provide year-round resources that cultivate engaging and experiential relationships between people and plants. Over the last three decades, this sale has continued to grow, and so has its impact and audience.
The UDBG Annual Spring Benefit Plant Sale is an in-person event. Held annually on campus (211 Roger Martin Lane Newark, Delaware 19716), the sale kicks off University of Delaware Ag Day, one of UD’s most popular community events.
