UD community invited to seek out new cultures, friendships and perspectives throughout November

The University of Delaware’s Institute for Global Studies invites the campus community to opt out of the ordinary and seek out the new during its annual UD Global Month celebration in November.

Through more than 70 lectures, films, festivals and events, Global Month will highlight countries and cultures from around the world, and the many ways in which we can explore.

In alignment with International Education Week (IEW), a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, UD Global Month also celebrates the exchange between U.S. citizens and UD’s international students, scholars and family members.

Visit the Institute for Global Studies website to chart your own path or follow along @UDGlobal on Instagram and Twitter. Share your story using #UDGlobalMonth and #IEW2019.

Global Month is a university-wide initiative sponsored by the Institute for Global Studies, Dining Services, English Language Institute, Residence Life and Housing and Office for International Students and Scholars, with contributions by the Asian and Pacific Islander Student Association (APSA), Biden Institute, Center for Global and Area Studies, Departments of Art and Design, Business Administration, English, History, Languages, Literatures and Cultures, Leadership and Music, European Studies Program, HOLA, Harrington Theater Arts Company (HTAC), International House Living Learning Community (iHouse), Islamic Studies Program, Jewish Studies Program, KoDACC, Master Players’ Concert Series, Plastino Scholars Program, Preservation Studies Program, Resident Ensemble Players (REP), Student Diversity and Inclusion and Student Life.

A Leader in International Education

UD has long been recognized as a leader in international education.

UD founded the nation’s first study abroad program in 1923, when Professor Raymond Kirkbride proposed a daring new plan to take eight students to France by ship for immersive language study.

Nearly a century later, our innovation continues with the first-of-their-kind World Scholars and Delaware Diplomats Programs. Today, UD is home to more than 4,000 international students, scholars and family members from 105 countries and numerous multicultural organizations. Students are invited to internationalize their studies through a host of academic majors and minors, including 11 foreign languages
