Alumni Engagement through COVID-19

Announcement to Alumni and Friends

Dear Blue Hen Alumni and Friends,

Our thoughts are with you and your families as our country faces the unprecedented public health situation of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.

At this trying time, the University of Delaware has been working hard to pivot and address the health and safety needs of our community. Such efforts have affected everything from classroom instruction (which we are transitioning to online/distance learning) to campus life (we recently announced temporary closing of our residential facilities). The decisions impacting our campus experience are never easy, but the health of our Blue Hens is a top priority. We will continue to monitor the pandemic situation. To see the latest message from President Assanis and UD’s response to COVID-19 issue, please visit udel.edu/coronavirus. This page is often updated with campus news and resources regarding coronavirus.

With all the change that is occurring at UD, in Delaware, and around the world, I would like to provide some guidance for alumni engagement, which is informed by concern for the health and well-being of our Blue Hen community, until further notice:

Events:

All UD-sponsored alumni and donor events on campus and around the country have been canceled through April 30, including campaign events, regional club events and the annual Celebration of Scholarship event. Those who have already registered for events will be contacted for refunds, if applicable. The University will continue to evaluate the situation to determine if events planned after April, including Alumni Weekend, will be impacted. More information will be forthcoming.

Community Connection:

With in-person meetings and events on hold for now, we hope you will continue to stay engaged with the University community.

Here are some ways you can connect with UD and Blue Hens digitally:

If you have questions about events or other alumni programs, please do not hesitate to contact us at alumnet@udel.edu. In the meantime, please know that we are thinking about our entire Blue Hen community and urge you to take extra care in staying healthy during this time of uncertainty.

Sincerely,

Jim Dicker
Vice President, Development and Alumni Relations
