Volunteer Shout-Outs - February 2024

Volunteer Shout-Outs - September 2024

The Office of Development and Alumni Relations relies on a team of dedicated Blue Hen volunteers to strengthen the connections between alumni, students and the University through a variety of programs and events. Volunteers' many contributions include planning and helping to lead regional, affinity and reunion events, offering mentorship and professional development opportunities to students and serving as proud ambassadors of UD.

Here, we regularly spotlight volunteers who enhance the UD experience for students and alumni.

September 2024 Spotlights:  Teri Windisch, AS93 and Cpt. Micah Peterson, AS17

"I am grateful for what I gained from my college experience and committed to helping future Blue Hens achieve the same."

In 2023, Teri Windisch, AS93, joined the UD Alumni Association (UDAA) Board of Directors, for which she serves on the Awards Committee. She is currently spearheading the development and implementation of an orientation program for incoming board members, which will include a buddy program to help foster greater understanding of UDAA programs and deeper connections among board members.

Her commitment to the University of Delaware extends beyond her current role. Windisch was an ambassador for her 20th and 25th Reunion Committees and had been a mentor through the UD CAN (Career Advisory Network) program.

Along with her husband, Matt, also a proud Blue Hen, Windisch hosted New Student Send-Off events at their home in 2013 and 2014, further supporting the next generation of Blue Hens.

Fun Fact:

“I was born in Kampala, Uganda, when my parents were serving in the Peace Corps. At UD, I was president of my graduating class.”

Why does she give back to UD?

“My four years at UD were the most formative of my life and inspired my initial career choice of student affairs and higher education administration.  I am grateful for what I gained from my college experience and committed to helping future Blue Hens achieve the same.”

"I give back because UD has impacted my life in a plethora of ways. But I give back because of the people."

Micah Peterson, AS17, recently took on the role of president of the Army ROTC Alumni Network. In 2022, he served as an ambassador for the University of Delaware’s Class of 2017 5th Reunion.

As a student, Peterson was actively involved in Army ROTC, the University of Delaware Alternative Breaks (UDAB) program and study abroad.

In his senior year, Peterson was honored with the prestigious UDAA Taylor Award for Outstanding Senior, which recognizes a student who demonstrated exceptional leadership, academic achievement and community service, with a preference for those who have made a significant impact on the University.

Fun Fact:

“I got to lead the processional at graduation two years in a row!”

Why does he give back to UD?

“I give back because UD has impacted my life in a plethora of ways. But I give back because of the people. Coming from Texas my freshman year, little did I know just how special the mentors, professors and friends in the First State would be.

I hope by giving back to UD, I can help current and future students experience similar deep, meaningful and lasting relationships that I cultivated, and truly internalize the importance of building strong bonds with those around us.”
