All graduates, guests must have tickets to attend Commencement June 1

The University of Delaware will hold its 170th Commencement ceremony at 9 a.m., Saturday, June 1, in Delaware Stadium. Featured speaker will be alumnus Matt Nagy, head coach of the Chicago Bears and the NFL Coach of the Year.

This year all graduating students and their guests will be required to have tickets for the ceremony. Seating in Delaware Stadium is limited since a section of the stands is closed as part of a $60 million renovation project that is currently underway.

Here are some helpful tips for those planning to attend this year’s ceremony:

1. You must have a ticket.

Commencement is a ticketed event, and everyone attending must have a ticket, including graduates. No one will be admitted without a ticket.

2. There’s still time for graduating students to request tickets.

Graduating students were given the opportunity to request tickets earlier this year. For those students who have not yet gotten tickets for themselves or their family members, a limited number of tickets are still available until Friday, May 10, or until they run out. In addition to a ticket for themselves, students may request up to two guest tickets. Instructions on how to reserve Commencement tickets are available at www.udel.edu/commencement/tickets. (Anyone experiencing technical difficulties while reserving tickets should contact the ticket office directly at 302-831-2257 or athletics-tix@udel.edu.)

3. Tickets must be printed out in advance.

Everyone attending Commencement should be sure to print out their tickets in advance and bring the printouts to the ceremony on June 1. Digital copies of tickets will not be accepted. Also, please be aware that student tickets and guest tickets are not interchangeable.

And there’s more...

Students participating in Commencement must wear a cap and gown, and the Barnes and Noble UD Bookstore is the only approved vendor for required University regalia. Students who missed the pre-ordering deadline can still get the regalia they need by visiting the Bookstore at 83 East Main St., Newark.

In addition to the University-wide Commencement ceremony, many colleges and departments hold Convocation ceremonies to honor their graduates. Some of these ceremonies may also require tickets. To learn more about Convocations, visit the 2019 Convocation Schedule, which has information about specific ceremonies, including ticket requirements, if any, and times and locations.

For those unable to attend the Commencement ceremony in Delaware Stadium on June 1, it will be streamed live online at UDLive, and it also will be broadcast live in two tents on The Green that morning.
