How did UD bring you together? Carlie was on the dance company Dark Arts, which has an annual fundraiser called Dancing with DA (a spoof of Dancing with the Stars). She happened to be organizing the event and Ross was one of the "stars.”

What makes your Blue Hen spouse a good partner? We have so much in common—UD memories, Haitian background and the mindset of having continuous growth. We keep each other grounded.  

How are you celebrating Valentine’s Day this year? February is a month of celebration for us with Valentine's Day and both our birthdays.

Do you have advice for other UD couples? Enjoy the time that you have on campus with each other. Those memories are priceless! Continue to get to know each other every day. You don't just grow old together, you grow together and with growth comes change.

Favorite UD memory: Tailgating at football games with our kids, our UD friends and their families.

What makes your Blue Hen spouse a good partner? Tom does the laundry and Jenn is the glue that holds our family together.

How do you keep UD part of your life? We have been football season ticket holders since 2003, attend Alumni Weekend and support the UD community through giving. We have three boys, including one who is Class of 2023 and one who plans to attend next fall.

How are you celebrating Valentine’s Day this year? A family dinner at La Banca in Middletown, Del., where a relative is the head chef.

Do you have advice for other UD couples? Remember your roots. UD brought us together and has helped keep us together. Remaining active in the UD community has given us friendships and a support network like no other.

How did UD bring you together? We both interned for Stimulating Prose Ideas and Theories (SPIT) and quickly became friends during and after that.

What makes your Blue Hen spouse a good partner? We are best friends. Our friendship has truly sustained and kept us grounded as a couple and individuals.

How do you keep UD part of your life? We keep in contact with our friends from UD all of time, as well as attend and support annual events by the Black Alumni Organization and our fraternity and sorority (Kappa Alpha Psi and Zeta Phi Beta).

How are you celebrating Valentine’s Day this year? Together. Having a nice quiet day together free of children and the outside world—just us.

Do you have advice for other UD couples? Easily forgive; laugh; and keep the friendship strong.

Favorite UD spot: Student Center. We were both actively involved in the Student Center Council, which planned and implemented student activities.

Favorite UD memory: In an October 1978 article in The Review, there was a typo where Alex was listed as “Flex.” He has been known by the nickname ever since. Also, when Marty’s parents came to visit and there was a “clown” doing somersaults down the hallway. Marty’s parents didn’t realize at the time that the “clown” would be their future son-in-law.

What makes your Blue Hen spouse a good partner? Laughing, having fun and working together.

How are you celebrating Valentine’s Day this year? Alex is a terrific cook and will prepare a wonderful meal.

Do you have advice for other UD couples? Laugh together! Have fun together! Do what works for you as a couple.

First date: TGI Friday’s

Favorite UD memory: For Courtney it is watching Jamin play during football games, and for Jamin it is watching the men’s basketball team make the NCAA tournament.

What makes your Blue Hen spouse a good partner? We complement each other. Where I’m strong she’s weak and where I’m weak she’s strong. And at our core we are friends, and we genuinely enjoy being around each other.

How do you keep UD part of your life? By staying connected with former classmates and taking part in local alumni events.

Do you have advice for other UD couples? Communicate, communicate, communicate and keep making time together a priority.

How did UD bring you together? We both lived in Dickinson F. Terranze was the RA on the first floor and Jennie lived on the fourth floor.

How do you keep UD part of your life? We are both regular attendees at local alumni events and have yet to miss an Alumni Weekend.

Do you have advice for other UD couples? Always remember to make it a priority to have fun together.

Favorite UD spot: Newark Deli & Bagel and Ray Street

What makes your Blue Hen spouse a good partner? Ivan’s humor, charm, determination and resiliency. Lora’s compassion, authenticity, reliability and patience.

How do you keep UD part of your life? We have several group chats with friends from UD that we are very active in. We reminisce on the good times and find ways to collaborate together. In addition, Ivan has participated in panel discussions or speaking engagements, and we try to give back as well.

How are you celebrating Valentine’s Day this year? Every day is Valentine’s Day in the Learmont household. Weather dependent, we will likely spend some time outside with the kids and then Ivan will cook a nice dinner for the family.

Do you have advice for other UD couples? Simply put, opposites attract. Most people think that college sweethearts did everything together. It’s OK (healthy) to hang out with friends, separately. Believe it or not, that time apart will help you learn more about yourself and your partner.

What makes your Blue Hen a good partner? What makes Liam a good partner is his commitment to ensuring that we make time for adventures, both big and small. What makes Bobby a good partner is his ability to always find the positive and to make the most out of every moment.

How do you keep UD part of your life? We keep UD part of our lives by attending events (both in-person and virtual) for alumni in our area, as well as donating to groups and schools at the University that had a large impact on our time there, such as the Department of Communication and the Honors Program. We also try to make it to as many Alumni Weekends as we can!

How are you celebrating Valentine's Day this year? Cozying up on the couch with some hot cocoa and a good movie.

Do you have advice for other UD couples? Always find time to laugh together, every day!

How did UD bring you together? The good people at the Office of Residence Life saw it fit to place us on the same floor during Victor's freshman year and Krystal's sophomore year—and fate would take it from there.

What makes your Blue Hen spouse a good partner? We both love each other unselfishly and value each other's happiness.

How do you keep UD part of your life? Krystal works in the Admissions Office at UD and we annually give back while also maintaining numerous invaluable life-long friendships that began during our time at the University.

How are you celebrating Valentine's Day this year? We have a babysitter secured and look forward to enjoying some time together at one of our favorite restaurants.

How did UD bring you together? A mutual friend, who was Jamie’s freshman Each One Reach One mentor, invited her to Rodney Dining Hall and she sat with the upperclassmen. Ken was at the table and the rest is history.

What makes your Blue Hen spouse a good partner? Our shared experience at UD was a strong foundation and the fun and laughter hasn't stopped.

Do you have advice for other UD couples? Continue to put in the same effort to meet your partner’s needs as you did at the beginning of the relationship.
