Library launches video tutorials and enhances workarounds following Wiley subscription cancelation
In January, the University of Delaware’s Library, Museums and Press made the difficult decision not to renew its subscription to Wiley journals due to rising costs and ongoing financial constraints affecting academic libraries nationwide.
The Library, Museums and Press launched a series of tutorial videos designed to help faculty, researchers and graduate students continue accessing journal articles and scholarly resources.
Additionally, the Library has suspended the previous 10-article-per-person limit on Article Galaxy Scholar (AGS) requests. This change ensures that faculty and students can immediately utilize AGS as an unrestricted and cost-free pathway to obtain articles from Wiley without an arbitrary cap interfering with access.
“We’ve heard the important concerns raised by faculty regarding research capacity as an R1 institution,” said Trevor A. Dawes, vice provost for libraries and museums. “We know that the tools we introduced require adjustments in how researchers approach journal discovery and retrieval. In direct response, we are providing targeted, explicit training and removing administrative boundaries to guarantee that scholarship continues without interruption.”
The Library created three new instructional videos that provide step-by-step guidance on the tools and services available to the UD community.
The videos also highlight how to:
- Access articles through AGS
- Use LibKey Nomad to connect directly to available full text
- Monitor journal content through BrowZine
- Identify open-access Wiley journals and other freely available scholarly resources
All are encouraged to watch the videos and explore the available resources.
