Undergraduate and graduate students can apply to be an Extension scholar
University of Delaware Cooperative Extension has opened up applications for its Extension Scholar Program.
This summer internship program enables UD undergraduate and graduate students to gain hands-on experience across Cooperative Extension’s four focus areas: Health and Well-being, Agriculture, 4-H and Horticulture.
During the 10-week immersive experience, Extension Scholars may be involved in the design and delivery of non-traditional adult and youth educational programs. They may analyze data and evaluate a program’s community impact. They may design surveys and partner with volunteers and the public on community initiatives. Extension Scholars will develop leadership and interpersonal skills, learn about Cooperative Extension careers, and apply the knowledge they’ve gained through university coursework to our four focus areas.
“I love our summer Extension Scholar opportunities as they can open the door to a viable post-graduation career where young adults are mentored to make a difference in Delaware communities by diagnosing crop, landscape, animal or environmental maladies and offer practical solutions. Or they can work directly with our agents offering programs aimed at improving health behaviors,” said Erik Ervin, Interim Associate Dean and Interim Director of Cooperative Extension. “Join us this summer and work to extend knowledge and change lives.”
Extension Scholar opportunities are available in New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties.
Extension Scholars will receive a student stipend of $5,500.
Online applications are due Feb. 27, 2026. Scholars accepted into the program will be notified via email on March 20.
