UD announces tuition rates for 2023-24

Increase held to 5% with no increase in mandatory fees

As the University of Delaware continues to maintain the high quality of its educational experience while working to control costs, UD has announced a 5% tuition increase in undergraduate and graduate programs for the 2023-24 academic year. To help alleviate the impact of this tuition increase to families and students, there will be no increase in mandatory fees for the second year in a row, despite significant inflation and rising expenses across the board.

UD’s undergraduate tuition for the 2023-24 academic year will increase by $670 for Delawareans (to $14,040) and by $1,790 for nonresidents (to $37,680). The base tuition rate for graduate programs is also increasing by 5% for 2023-24.

The total annual cost for most undergraduates living on campus (including tuition, mandatory fees, room and board) will be $31,256 for Delawareans and $54,896 for nonresidents. These costs reflect standard annual housing and dining options, totaling $15,176; this cost may vary depending on individual student choices.

Mandatory fees remain at the 2021-22 level. These fees — the Comprehensive Fee, the Wellbeing Fee and the Student Center Fee — total $2,040 in support of the student experience beyond the classroom, providing resources that promote wellbeing, enhance the residential experience, enable fitness and recreational programming and encourage student community building.

As expanding student access and success are signature priorities for the University, there is a strong commitment to increasing financial aid. Through the First State Promise program, UD aims to cover full tuition for Delawareans with family incomes of less than $75,000. Families with income over $75,000 may also benefit from UD’s First State Promise by receiving grant funding as part of their financial award. UD also continues to enhance the Associate in Arts Program, which, when combined with the state SEED scholarship, enables Delawareans to complete their first two years of a bachelor’s degree, and potentially a third year, for free.

UD also provides significant financial aid to nonresident students. More than 470 new undergraduate scholarships have been funded by the record-breaking Delaware First campaign. Specifically, the campaign has raised more than $173 million to support UD undergraduate students.

The quality of a UD education continues to be reflected in rankings, with many programs placing among the nation’s best, including engineering, business, computer science, entrepreneurship and nursing, among others. UD consistently ranks among the top 1.5% of higher education institutions around the globe, according to the Center for World University Rankings.

What that means for UD students is an empowering and engaging classroom experience that results in increased access to experiential learning opportunities like undergraduate research and internships, as well as success after graduation. Some 97% of UD graduates are employed or continuing their education six months after Commencement.
