The Resident Ensemble Players' new series starts with “Love Letters”

A.R. Gurney’s play to be performed at the Roselle Center on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1

The Resident Ensemble Players, the University of Delaware’s resident professional acting company, is premiering its newest series, ChambeREP.  The ChambeREP series is a celebration of performance art, offering a new variety of performance styles at a very low price. This year’s ChambeREP is comprised of four events, each designed to surprise and delight audiences by tapping into the essential age-old theatrical power of performer-audience connection. More information is at rep.udel.edu. The REP Box Office is at the Roselle Center for the Arts in Newark.

The ChambeREP series begins with a moving and intimate performance of A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters, on Friday, Sept. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 1.

Andrew and Melissa, played by the REP’s Steve Tague and Kathleen Pirkl Tague, have exchanged hundreds of letters for over 50years. Their relationship spans childhood crushes, boarding schools, college, war, marriages, divorces, and an assortment of personal demons. As they age, their relationship survives, changes, and deepens. They are as close as two souls can be, communicating almost exclusively through hand-written correspondence.

This romantic play, truly elegant in its simplicity, is for all those who have treasured the intimacy of a hand-written letter, and the remarkable gift of a friendship that lasts a lifetime. Join the REP for this limited engagement of A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters. Tickets are $15. Discounts are available for students.

Performance dates:
