Computational resources available for new faculty

UD can help new faculty with computational methods or high-performance computing needs

To best support new faculty at the University of Delaware if their research involves computational methods and/or high-performance computing needs, UD has made available a variety of resources:
HPC Lunch: Faculty using computational methods meet roughly twice per semester over lunch informally to mingle and discuss a wide range of topics such as needs, educational issues, research, funding opportunities, and infrastructure. If you are interested in joining this informal faculty network, please contact Samantha Smith at sesmith@udel.edu know. You can also go directly to the hpc-forum@udel.edu and request that you be added to the list.
HPC Machine Access: UD has several computational resources, such as the Caviness community cluster and the DARWIN cluster. Caviness is faculty owned while DARWIN is an NSF Major Research Instrumentation award that supports computational and data-intensive science of all UD researchers and regional partners.
Center and Core Facility for Data-intensive and Computational Science (DiCoS): This organization within UD’s Data Science Institute aims to build the resources needed by UD researchers in these fields. The DARWIN award resulted from DiCoS activities. DiCoS is also looking to build a team of computational experts that can assist new faculty with creating, optimizing, and running computational applications. New faculty are encouraged to reach out if they have related questions.

High-performance computing is tightly related to data-intensive research, which is why the HPC faculty interact closely with those participating in UD’s Data Science Institute. If your work primarily involves data science, you can also consider joining the “data-science” Google Group.
