Laird Pedestrian Bridge Painting
July 30, 2026
Project to begin August 3
The University of Delaware Facilities team will begin a scheduled maintenance project on the Laird Pedestrian Bridge on August 3, 2026. The project includes power washing and painting of the bridge and is expected to continue through September 11, 2026.
To minimize disruption during the busy move-in period, work will begin on the underside of the bridge before work crews transition to painting the bridge structure itself. Following move-in, painting will be completed on one side at a time to help maintain pedestrian access whenever possible. The project has been planned to avoid disruptions to student move-in traffic.
Members of the campus community may encounter temporary restrictions during the project, including occasional section closures, wet surfaces, and minor delays for pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the area along David Hollowell Drive. Portions of the bridge may be coned off while work is underway. Sidewalk and road access impacts are possible throughout the duration of the project.
