Presentations

Trevor A. Dawes, the vice provost for libraries and museums and May Morris University Librarian, was an invited speaker at Howard University Libraries to discuss the role of the academic library at an R1 University on July 28, 2026. Dawes’ talk focused on four areas: the changing role of libraries, drawing on the often-used metaphor of the library as the heart of the university; the library's importance on campus, making the connection between the library and student success, as well as institutional reputation and rankings; how an R1 designation shapes library work, tying it to the important work of academic libraries today; and how roles evolve for research-intensive libraries discussing new roles that are needed to support the academic research enterprise.

This past spring, Troy Mix, interim director of the Institute for Public Administration (IPA), showcased the institute’s impact from Sofia, Bulgaria, to Sussex County. In Bulgaria, he presented the “Delaware Model” at the 34th annual NISPAcee Conference, focusing on bridging theory and practice in public service education with a presentation titled “Bridging the Theory-Practice Gap: Student Engagement Models in Delaware, USA and Brno, Czechia.” Back in Delaware, he delivered a crucial economic forecast for the Greater Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, detailing growth trends and housing challenges in Sussex County. Both events demonstrated a commitment to shaping the future of communities through meaningful engagement and data-driven insights. These engagements highlight IPA’s ongoing work to address public administration challenges both locally and globally. IPA is a research and public service center in the Joseph R. Biden, Jr. School of Public Policy and Administration.

Publications

Margaret Stetz, Mae and Robert Carter Professor of Women's Studies and professor of humanities, has had another poem appear in print and online, this time in the literary journal The Soliloquist: Magazine of Poetry. Her poem titled "Perspective" was published in Issue 5 (Summer 2026).

Elizabeth Orsega-Smith, professor of health behavior and nutrition sciences and graduate program director of health behavior science in the College of Health Sciences, and Julia O’Hanlon, lead policy scientist and health and aging policy services coordinator at the Biden School of Public Policy and Administration, served as guest coeditors for “Aging and Public Health” issue of the Delaware Journal of Public Health, an official journal of the Delaware Academy of Medicine and Public Health, published in July 2026.
