Update from UD Police
January 27, 2026
Effective Jan. 1, the University now refers to timely warning notifications as Campus Safety Alerts
The University of Delaware Police Department and its Office of Clery Act Compliance have altered the terminology that is used in association with its timely warning notifications to more accurately reflect the nature and scope of safety-related notifications that are shared with members of the University of Delaware community.
As of Jan. 1, 2026, the University of Delaware now refers to timely warning notifications as Campus Safety Alerts.
The purpose, delivery methods and criteria for issuing timely warning notifications will remain unchanged. Campus Safety Alerts will continue to be issued in accordance with federal Clery Act requirements and University of Delaware policy, and they will continue to be shared through the same established communication channels.
Required by the federal Clery Act, timely warning notifications that are distributed by colleges and universities may include information about potential threats, safety concerns and/or other incidents for which timely awareness can help community members make informed decisions about their personal safety.
At UD, these notifications previously had been distributed to the UD community as Crime Alerts. The University’s reclassification of these notifications more closely aligns their name with their content, as not all incidents outlined within timely warning notifications meet the legal definition of a crime.
The UD Police Department values its continued partnership with the University community in helping to keep the University of Delaware a safe and informed community.
