Nov. 3 lecture features NC State's Dr. Julie Swann on Data, Decisions and the Drive to Optimize Health Systems

The University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics welcomes Julie Swann, A. Doug Allison Distinguished Professor and head of the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at North Carolina State University, as the featured speaker for the W.L. Gore Lecture Series in Management Science on Monday, Nov. 3, at 6 p.m. in Room 501 of the FinTech Innovation Hub on UD’s STAR Campus. A reception will follow the lecture.

Swann conducts research, outreach and education to improve how health and humanitarian systems operate worldwide. She previously served as a science advisor for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention during the H1N1 pandemic response.

In her talk, “Data, Decisions and the Drive to Optimize Health Systems,” Swann will explore how data-driven decision making can help address complex public health challenges—from pandemics to chronic disease and inequities in care. Using real-world examples such as vaccine distribution and supply chain resilience, she will show how mathematical models and analytics can guide more efficient, equitable and impactful health outcomes.

The W.L. Gore Lecture Series in Management Science, endowed by the Gore family, features experts in the application of probability, statistics and experimental design to decision making in academia, business, government, engineering and medicine. The series recognizes the pivotal role these disciplines have played in the success of W.L. Gore & Associates, Inc. The inaugural lecture was held in March 2011.
