Faculty experts to discuss research of newly minted Nobel laureates
UD faculty will discuss the 2025 Nobel Prize winners at the 2025 Nobel Symposium on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. in the Harker ISE Laboratory Atrium. Hosted by the College of Arts and Sciences, this annual talk gives the UD community an opportunity to learn more about the prizes and winners from faculty who conduct research in similar fields.
Viet Dinh, associate professor of English, will speak about Laszlo Krasznahorkai, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, for his visionary oeuvre that reaffirms the power of art.
Klaus Theopold, professor emeritus of chemistry and biochemistry, will speak about Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson and Omar M. Yaghi, winners of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, for the development of metal–organic frameworks.
Jeremy Tobacman, associate professor of economics, will speak about Joel Mokyr, Philippe Aglhion and Peter Howitt, winners of the Nobel Prize in Economics.
Ramona Neunuebel, associate professor biological sciences, will speak about Mary E. Brunkow, Fred Ramsdell and Shimon Sakaguchi, winners of the Nobel Prize in Medicine, for their discoveries of peripheral immune tolerance.
Mónica Domínguez Torres, professor and chair of art history, will speak about Maria Corina Machado, winner of the Nobel Prize in Peace, for her work promoting democratic rights in Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.
Yafei Ren, assistant professor of physics and astronomy, will speak about John Clarke, Michel H. Devoret and John M Martinis, winners of the Nobel Prize in Physics, for their work on macroscopic quantum tunnelling and energy quantization in an electrical circuits.
