Campus Safety Update

UD Police arrested an 18-year-old man who is unaffiliated with the University and charged him with two felonies

The University of Delaware Police Department (UDPD) has arrested and charged an 18-year-old man on two felony offenses.

At approximately 5:08 a.m. March 3, UD Police responded to a 911 call reporting an incident that occurred outside of George Read Residence Hall. The call was made by a man who is unaffiliated with the University, claiming he was being threatened by another man, Nicholas Romano, 18, of Talleyville, Delaware. Romano, who maintains no affiliation with UD, allegedly presented a knife during a verbal altercation with the victim and started to approach him. The victim fled the area and went inside George Read Hall, locking the door behind him. Romano gave chase and could not gain entry.

Upon arrival, UD Police conducted an area canvass and located Romano inside of a vehicle. UDPD found a knife on the front passenger floor board of the vehicle occupied by Romano. The knife matched the description provided by the victim.

UDPD took Romano into custody without incident. Romano has been charged with two felonies — aggravated menacing and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.

Romano was processed and arraigned on a $21,000 cash bond. The court issued Romano a no-contact order for both the victim and the University. UD Police also have banned Romano from all University property.
