The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the region. In anticipation of accumulating snowfall that may lead to slippery roads and hazardous driving conditions, the University of Delaware has made the following alterations to its operations and academic instruction for Friday, Jan. 19, at UD’s Newark campus and other UD locations in New Castle County:
Instructors of classes that are scheduled between 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Friday are asked to communicate with their course sections, as these sessions may convene virtually or be canceled and rescheduled at the instructor’s discretion. Potential transition of these courses could be either synchronous virtual classroom instruction or an asynchronous format. Flexibility is appreciated; this action prioritizes the safety and well-being of our students and faculty while ensuring academic continuity.
Normal operating schedules, including transportation services, will be suspended 5 a.m.-8 p.m.; however, essential personnel should report to work as scheduled. Non-essential employees should work remotely on Friday and not report to campus. Supervisors will communicate instructions and remote work assignments for non-essential employees as needed.
Residence Life and Housing staff, and other essential services, will be available to students. Regarding Student Wellbeing, patients with Friday appointments at Student Health Services and the Center for Counseling and Student Development will be contacted to reschedule. Utilize the UD Hotline and other resources to access after-hours and 24/7 medical- and crisis-care support.
Dining will operate on the brunch-dinner schedule. For additional information, including hours of operation at retail locations, visit the Dining Services website or the Instagram account for UD Dining Services.
Administrative staff at the University’s campuses in Lewes, Dover and Georgetown will continue monitoring real-time weather conditions and provide updates, as appropriate.
Other schedule updates
- The Carpenter Sports Building; the Morris Library; the bookstore; the Student Centers; the Newark Testing Center; and the Wellbeing Center at Warner Hall will be closed Friday.
Information about any additional schedule changes will be posted on UDaily. Please check there for updates.
