In Memoriam: Sandy Margerison

Campus remembers retired graphics communications coordinator

Sandy Margerison, retired service coordinator in University Printing for more than 25 years, passed away peacefully at home on March 1, 2023. She was 74.

Sandy Margerison

Ms. Margerison joined UD as service coordinate in what was then the Graphic Communications Center in 1985. She retired from University Printing in 2012.

Colleagues in University Printing shared their memories:

“Before her retirement in 2012, Sandy’s smiling face could always be found assisting customers,” Becky Ramos said. “She had an excellent memory and was great with numbers. All she had to do was see your face and she could recall your name, department and phone number. If she discovered you were a fellow sports fan, you could always count on getting a good old fashioned ribbing about your team. Sandy had an ornery side and could play jokes with the best of them, but it’s her unending love and devotion to her friends and family that will always be remembered.”

Jo Ellen Rathbun said, “I worked with Sandy for many years. You could always count on her. She almost never missed work, and she was meticulous. She was devoted to her family, especially her grandkids. She was a friend, not just a coworker. She will be missed.”

“When I joined University Printing in 1999, Sandy had been here many years and wanted things done a certain way,” Holly Keeley said. “Sandy always had a friendly face and personality to go with it. I loved her laugh; it was contagious. As the years passed, we all became more like family.  At times, work was not work -- we had fun, listening to music, decorating for Open House or just chatting about our day and our families. When she was in a great mood you knew it and when she was not happy,  you also knew it. She loved spending time with her family. Once she became  a grandmother she was in seventh heaven. Even after she retired, we would keep in touch and chat on the phone or get together for dinner to catch up on things and people we knew. Now she has left us again. She will be missed but never forgotten.”
