University of Delaware men’s basketball coach Martin Ingelsby will be appointed to the President's Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, the White House announced on Friday, March 24.

"It is a great honor to have been appointed to the President's Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition," Ingelsby said. "I look forward to serving in this role and giving back to the community."

The President's Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition is a federal advisory committee that aims to promote healthy, accessible eating and physical activity for all Americans, regardless of background or ability. On Friday, President Joe Biden — UD Class of 1965— issued Executive Order 14048, renewing the President's Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, which allows for continued promotion of the National Youth Sports Strategy and provides for the work of the Council to include a focus on expanding national awareness of the importance of mental health as it pertains to physical fitness and nutrition.

Ingelsby just finished his seventh season leading the Blue Hens. His tenure in Newark is highlighted by Delaware winning the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association men’s tournament and advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in eight years. Ingelsby played, graduated and served as an assistant coach at Notre Dame before accepting the head coaching position at UD in 2016.

In 2022, Biden appointed chef and restaurateur José Andrés and former UD basketball star Elena Delle Donne to serve as co-chairs of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition.
