Five weeks out, five things to do

If you’re graduating in May, it’s time to act now

Commencement ceremonies at the University of Delaware are just five weeks away, so if you are a graduating student, here are five things you need to do now to get ready.

1. Check your name — You should have already received an email from commencement@udel.edu inviting you to access your student processional information through a site called MarchingOrder, where you can verify how your name will be read at convocation. Is it “Michael” or “Mike”? And how is your full name pronounced? You need to let MarchingOrder know for each convocation ceremony you’ll be attending, since you could be eligible for more than one. Note: Your preferred name at convocation may be different from the formal name printed on your diploma. Please access this site before Saturday, April 30. Contact commencement@udel.edu with any questions.

2. Get your tickets for convocation — If you’re attending one or more convocations for your college, you’ll need a ticket, and you can get as many as six guest tickets. If guest tickets are still available after the ticketing window closes on May 7, communications will be shared for securing additional tickets. Reserve your tickets at the Commencement website.

3. Get your tickets for Commencement —  To attend the University-wide ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28, at Delaware Stadium, you will also need a ticket. You can get as many as four guest tickets. Reserve your tickets at the Commencement website.

4. Send us a photo or two — We would love to feature your photos of your time at UD — from move-in to graduation photos on The Green and everything in between — in our pre-event slideshow. Submit up to two images to our form by Sunday, May 15.

5. Get rid of your stuff responsibly — Don’t need that table or that couch after graduation? The UDon’t Need It Student Move Out Project is a collaborative effort between UD and the City of Newark. The project aims to reduce local landfill waste and to redirect reusable items to the local community. During certain hours from Tuesday, May 24 through Friday, June 10, you may donate usable items at UD’s Science, Technology and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus.

And one more reminder: Share your excitement and your experiences on social media using #UDGrad2022 and #BlueHensForever.
