UD study abroad programs continuing as planned

Institute for Global Studies continues to monitor COVID-19 situation closely

Editor's note: On Feb. 28, after the U.S. State Department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention raised the travel advisory for Italy to Level 3, UD canceled its spring study abroad program in Rome. Students and their families received an email that evening, advising them of the decision. More details are available here.

All University of Delaware spring study abroad programs are continuing as planned, as long as conditions in the host communities are deemed safe.

Lisa Chieffo, interim director of IGS, sent an email Feb. 26 to all UD students studying abroad this spring, as well as a separate note to the 22 UD students currently enrolled at John Cabot University in Rome.

In the note, she assured the students that their health and safety are the University’s top priorities, adding, “IGS continues to work closely with our campus and international partners to monitor the situation. As always, we are following official guidance given by the U.S. State Department, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Drum-Cussac, UD’s travel risk service.”

Chieffo advised students to remain cautious, practice good health and hygiene, and monitor their UD email regularly for updates.

This semester, 71 UD students are studying in 12 foreign countries.
