Wellness Speaker Series begins April 22

UD alumna Summer Bukeavich to open the virtual speaker series live on Facebook

The University of Delaware’s Wellness Speaker Series will begin on Wednesday, April 22, with alumna Summer Bukeavich appearing in the first of three events that will be offered live via Facebook, beginning at 3 p.m.

The second and third events will be May 7 and May 14. All three events will be broadcast via facebook.com/UDHealthyHENS and will include a question-and-answer session following the main speaker.

The series is organized and hosted by Student Wellness and Health Promotion, which is part of UD’s Division of Student Life.

This series, facilitated by student wellness ambassadors, brings relevant speakers to the campus community to share their personal stories of adversity and perseverance. Bukeavich is a UD alumna who has lived with an anxiety disorder since she was 19 years old. She tried to manage her anxiety with therapy and medication, but her unsupportive work environment triggered her anxiety every day until she regained control of her life and found a workplace that better suited her needs.

Comedian Patrick Holbert will perform at 3 p.m. on May 7, sharing stories from his college years about his experiences with alcoholism and addiction. Patrick also chose to regain control of his life and his happiness; today, he celebrates over 10 years of sobriety.

Sadiq Ali will close out the 2020 speaker series at 3 p.m. on May 14. Sadiq is passionate about helping individuals, families, and communities become the best versions of themselves despite adversities they face and unsupportive cultural constructs.

All members of the UD community are encouraged to tune in for these one-of-a-kind public broadcasts.
