Presentations

Jennifer D. Griffin, adjunct professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice, gave an invited presentation in Taipei, Taiwan, at the 2019 Taiwan International Symposium on Regional Security and Transnational Crime, hosted by the Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau (MJIB) on Law Enforcement Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific Strategy. Griffin's presentation, titled “Human Trafficking from the Indo-Pacific Region to the U.S. — Challenges for local Law Enforcement," discussed the definitions and forms of human trafficking, the victims, traffickers and facilitators, the challenges with identifying the scope of the problem, the challenges that law enforcement face, and the 4P Paradigm (or model) to include the Protection, Prosecution, Prevention and Partnership to combat this crime. Through a victim-centered approach, recommendations for law enforcement were suggested to carry out national and international human trafficking initiatives.
