* What are effective ways to have healthy discourse and critical conversations around inequities in a free-thinking era (everyone has an opinion; everyone is an expert)?

* How to combat gender\wage gaps. (An insider employer view into salary negotiations.)

* How does an individual use their personal values and strengths and professional and social roles to enact positive change in the world?

* How can one ensure that all inter-sectional identities are included in advocacy efforts?

Session 1 - Concurrent Sessions (10:00am - 10:50am):

Creating Space for Healing in Programming - Cory Dulaney - Center for Male Engagement - Advanced Track

  • There is a tendency to act like we have it all together, even if it's a lie. We often "fake it til we make it" so much that we lose ourselves in experiences and challenges that could very well be still traumatizing us. This presentation will serve two purposes; one - to learn how we can create programming that invites us to lower our guard and become vulnerable in order to grow; two - to create the space to discuss what that would look like in our own lives. I hope the participant learns the value in vulnerability and the lessons in the "losses".
Advocacy, Activism & Altruism in Action: Channeling your social change passions into the workforce - Jordan Allison - Bloomberg - General Track
  • College is a fantastic place to find and hone your passion for social change. But how can this translate into the workplace after graduation? You can use your values and activism experience in your 9-5 job to advocate for others, promote diversity and inclusive policies, and more. Come learn about tools and resources to use your social justice experience in the workplace, brainstorm a career path that is meaningful, and continue the work you've done.

Session 2 - Concurrent Sessions (11:00am - 11:50am):

Actualizing Allyship: Shifting Culture to be More Inclusive - Mark D'Angelo - Student Diversity & Inclusion, University of Delaware - Advanced Track

  • Learn how to leverage your voice, identity, and positionality to help push your current and future places of employment to adopt more inclusive practices and policies that incorporate the lived experiences of historically minoritized identities--which ultimately, over time, will create a professional culture where everyone feels like they belong.
There Is More That Binds Us Than Divides Us - Rabia Baig - JP Morgan Chase - General Track
  • How will you thrive in a multigenerational workplace? Currently we face stereotypes around certain generations - Stereotypes like being considered “lazy”, “closed-minded”, “not as flexible.” This panel discussion will discuss the success stories and obstacles faced in a multigenerational workplace and how you can navigate through your career and break these stereotypes in the process.

Keynote Speaker (1:00pm - 2:00pm):

Dr. Joshua Fredenburg is a nationally acclaimed speaker, author of five books, leadership/diversity consultant, member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., Tedx Speaker, and President/Founder of the ‘Award Winning Circle of Change Leadership Experience that specializes in helping  students discover the leader from within, lead and interact with diverse groups of people more effectively with an inclusive lens of leadership, reach their fullest potential as a leader, and build the confidence and inspiration needed to make a positive impact in their community, nation, and world!

For the past thirteen years, Dr. Fredenburg has not only served as a keynote speaker in 47 states across the nation, but he has transformed the lives of thousands of people as a keynote speaker, workshop presenter, trainer, and facilitator at different conferences, retreats, and training that revolve around leadership, diversity/inclusion, student success, new student orientation, professional development, fraternity and sorority events, and college graduations.

In addition to a successful speaking career, Dr. Fredenburg received his Doctoral Degree in Organizational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University in June of 2019, attained a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Biola University in 2008, has appeared on various television/radio shows all across the country, and is the leader and founder of a leadership movement for student leaders all across the country that host two nationally recognized leadership development conferences each year in Los Angeles and New York!

Total internship management workshop

Total internship Management workshop

APRIL 16, 2020 • 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Everyone knows the value of internships, but does your organization run a strong intern program that maintains a pipeline of highly qualified candidates for full-time roles?  Internships and other forms of experiential education help students make a seamless transition to the world of work and are a perfect vehicle to increase retention rates, complete short-term projects, and identify future hires.

On April 16th at The Tower at STAR - Audion on University of Delaware's STAR campus, The University of Delaware Career Center, The Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce, the Delaware Prosperity Partnership and the Delaware SHRM will welcome Dr. Robert Shindell from Intern Bridge, the nation’s leading research & consulting firms to share a newfound approach to internships based on in-depth research and proven strategies. In this full-day, highly interactive and participatory workshop, participants will learn how to:

  • Effectively implement an impactful internship program;
  • Identify future hires through a no-strings-attached 12-week interview;
  • Create and maintain a pipeline of highly qualified and educated full-time job candidates;
  • Increase your organization's brand awareness on university and college campuses;
  • And much, much more!

Check out some of the comments from part participants in this unique event:

“Great session. We have an established program with 70+ summer interns at more than 15 locations but I still learned a lot about how we can improve our program. Walking away with a list of ways to improve and action items; great session and well worth the time.”

“I had not seen an agenda so I was not sure what to expect. Great PowerPoints and handouts. In the last 30 years I have been to dozens of workshops. Dr. Robert's is in the 2% of all presenters I have had the opportunity to hear.”

“Better than I anticipated! Great and relevant to our business needs. Dr. Robert did a great job of sharing practical ideas to help develop and grow internship programs. Liked the light hearted and fun approach.  Great event connecting regional academic and businesses together!”

This workshop has been accredited by both HRCI and SHRM-PDC and by attending you will receive six (6) CEU Credits!

How do you know if this is the event for you and your company? If you have struggled with any of the following instances:

  • How to effectively implement an amazing internship program
