The Lantern benefit is a comprehensive surgical program that provides a personalized concierge experience from dedicated Care Advocates and access to excellent health care through a network of credentialed Surgeons of Excellence for planned, non-emergent surgeries. Enrollment in the Lantern benefit is automatic for individuals enrolled in a University of Delaware Aetna or Highmark Delaware non-Medicare health plan.

Our goal is to simplify the surgical process from start to finish - from helping schedule appointments to eliminating medical bills related to your care. The credentialed surgeons undergo a rigorous evaluation process to assure that you receive high-quality care from specialists who excel in the area related to your needs. Lantern negotiates a single cost (bundled rate) for the entire surgical procedure, resulting in savings for the University of Delaware.

Using the Lantern benefit for your planned, non-emergent surgeries saves you money by reducing your financial responsibility and removing deductibles, copays, and coinsurance amounts.

Lighting your path to the best surgical care. In partnership with your employer, we cover the most expensive costs associated with surgery, so you’ll pay less for your procedure when you use your Lantern benefit. When you need to plan a surgery, make Lantern your first call: (855)200-2099 In the event of a medical emergency, call 911 or visit your nearest emergency room.

University of Delaware – Lantern Incentive Plan

Through the University of Delaware's partnership with Lantern, members are eligible to earn cash rewards when they use a Lantern Center of Excellence for covered surgical procedures. Rewards are tiered based on procedure type, as outlined below. All covered procedure categories are voluntary — there are no mandatory procedure requirements to participate. To earn a reward, members simply need to engage with Lantern before their procedure, work with a Lantern Care Navigator to select a high-quality in-network facility, and complete their surgery through Lantern's network. It's worth noting that preventative colonoscopies are not eligible for rewards. Members can get started by calling or visiting Lantern directly — a Care Navigator will guide them through the process from provider selection all the way through scheduling.
