Examine gender, power and social change

How do ideas about gender shape culture, institutions and everyday life? As a women and gender studies major at the University of Delaware, you will explore the histories and experiences of women and LGBTQ+ communities and examine how gender intersects with race, class, sexuality, nationality, religion, disability and age.

Drawing on perspectives from history, sociology, political science, literature, health and the arts, you will investigate how systems of power influence families, workplaces, media, law and public life. You will learn to question assumptions, evaluate evidence and understand complex social issues from multiple perspectives.

Majors may apply to the Domestic Violence Prevention and Services concentration—the only undergraduate program of its kind in the United States. The concentration combines interdisciplinary coursework with a 10-week paid summer practicum at a local service agency, preparing students to advocate for survivors and contribute to violence prevention.
