Online International Business (M.S.) Application Process

Our graduate application system is designed to put you in control of not only the application but all documents associated with that application. We have designated areas within the application where each required document should be uploaded. 

You’ll need:

1. Online Application

Begin assembling your required application materials as electronic documents before completing the online graduate application. Do not mail any documents.

2. Application Fee

A $75 application fee is due when you submit your online application.

3. Bachelor’s Degree

A four-year U.S. bachelor’s degree, or its equivalent, in any academic field from an accredited college or university is required. 

4. Transcripts

An unofficial transcript is required with your application. You should visit the registrar’s page of your home institution (post-high school institutions only) to print an unofficial copy to create your scan. If your home institution does not provide this service, ask for a student copy to create your scan. Do not mail official transcripts during the applicant stage. Please visit http://grad.udel.edu/apply/transcripts/ for more detailed information.

5.  Application Essay

Note: The Alfred Lerner College of Business & Economics program essays are reviewed for originality and proper referencing of cited materials.

6. Resume

A resume, or curriculum vitae, that documents your prior work experience, publications, honors and awards received, and a summary of your educational credentials.

7. Two Letters of Recommendation

You provide names and email addresses for your recommenders, and recommendation forms are emailed directly to them from the online application. Instructions are included as to how to return the completed forms electronically. You can submit your application before your letters of recommendation are complete.

8. GMAT/GRE Optional

If you are not submitting a GMAT/GRE score, please select that you request a waiver on the Test Score Waivers page of the application.

Adaptable to Your Individual Path

UD’s unique program consists of two complementary sets of coursework. First, a 12-credit international module builds your skills in assessing, understanding, interpreting and applying key principles of global management. You’ll bolster these core classes with a 3-credit international business elective tailored to your interests and career goals.

You'll round out this curriculum by designing a 15-credit business module, selecting courses in areas like management, analytics, information systems, accounting, economics, finance and marketing.

Core Courses (12 credits)

Globalization and Business 

Assesses environmental, institutional, industrial, strategic, and organizational features of globalization and business. Considers frameworks that guide managers’ understanding of globalization and business, how managers interpret the challenges and opportunities of globalization and the implications of globalization to professional development.

Leading Across Boundaries 

Leading Across Boundaries focuses on cultural similarities and differences worldwide and how they impact managers’ effectiveness. Attention is given to general cultural dimensions as well as specific global mindset competencies. This course will focus on cultural similarities and differences, and interpersonal interactions with people who are different from us. By understanding this, students will uncover and improve their own global leadership skills. 

Managing the Global Enterprise

Focuses on the development of business strategies and management practices for managing the multinational business organization.

The Future of Globalization: Issues, Agents, Decisions & You

Assesses the professional, economic, political, cultural, and institutional opportunities and challenges that individuals face in the global business environment. Analytics center on explaining the causes and consequences of the expanding integration of nations. Course materials tap varied resources, including contemporary analyses, multimedia profiles, and decision simulations. Class design taps various pedagogies, including research reports, position papers, discussion boards, and objective assessment. Class delivery leverages online technologies that support the “testing effect” and asynchronous assignments, activities, and assessments.

International Business Elective (3 credits; select one)

Ethical Issues in Domestic and Global Business Environments 

Topics include ethics in organizations, and problems and challenges dealing with external environment demands including global issues.

International Accounting 

Covers the functions of international accounting, including foreign currency transactions, financial statement translation, inflation, auditing, and taxation, with an emphasis on a comparative approach and current issues. Prerequisite: ACCT 620.

International Finance 

Examines the financial management of multinational firms and the interrelationships between financial planning and the international economic environment. Topics include direct investment theory, capital budgeting, financing trade and investments, risk management and working capital management. Prerequisite: FINC 650.

International Marketing Management 

Develops managerial decision-making skills in several areas related to international/global marketing such as environmental analysis, planning/organization, marketing research, segmentation, targeting and positioning/competitive analysis, and method of entry. Prerequisite: BUAD 680.

International Sport Management and Marketing 

Overview of the global sport industry, including the bid and host process for international sport competitions, the organization of the international sport community, the penetration strategies of American sport leagues and products into international markets, and the structure of sport in other countries.

Interdisciplinary and/or Business Electives (15 credits)

Choose 15 additional elective credits in business and/or interdisciplinary areas across a variety of disciplines, including, but not limited to, accounting, economics, finance, entrepreneurship, marketing, and management.

Kurt Norder, Ph.D.

Bio: Kurt Norder is an assistant professor of strategy and global studies in the Department of Business Administration at the University of Delaware. He joined the Alfred Lerner College of Business & Economics in 2014 after a postdoc at Simon Fraser and a Ph.D. in International Business at University of South Carolina. Professor Norder brings experience in engineering, Lean Six Sigma, corporate finance, international acquisition integration, treasury, global management and strategic consulting.

His research uses computational content analyses to identify trends and hidden patterns to evaluate complex interactions in areas such as international business, interdisciplinarity, team science and job search. He has publications in quality academic journals such as Academy of Management Perspectives, Journal of Business Research and Psychology of Sport & Exercise among others. His teaching interests include global environments, global management and strategic management.

You can transfer up to 9 credits per University of Delaware policy.

Note: You can transfer up to nine credits from another AACSB accredited program that have not already been used toward a completed degree.

All requests for transfer credit should be directed to the student’s major department using a Request for Transfer of Graduate Credit form. Transfer credits will be accepted provided that such credits:

• Were earned with a grade of no less than B,
• Are approved by the student’s adviser and the chair of the student’s major department,
• Are in accord with the specific degree program of the student as specified by the unit’s Graduate Program Policy Statement,
• Are not older than five years,
• Are graduate level courses, and
• Were completed at an accredited college or university.

Graduate courses counted toward a degree received elsewhere may not be transferred into a degree at the University of Delaware. Credits from institutions outside of the United States are generally not transferable to the University of Delaware.
