Sade Bonilla of the University of Pennsylvania will present in the School of Education’s series
Join University of Delaware’s College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) for a colloquium with Sade Bonilla, assistant professor in the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education, from 1:50 to 2:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, in room 205 of Willard Hall Education Building.
Sade Bonilla is an education policy scholar whose research examines how education policies and institutions shape students’ academic, economic and civic outcomes. Her work focuses on transitions from K–12 education into college and the labor market, including career and technical education, workforce-aligned postsecondary programs, financial aid, college affordability and other policies designed to expand educational opportunities for students from marginalized communities.
Bonilla’s colloquium will share results from a randomized controlled trial of a cost-of-living grant for Pell-eligible community college students at two Hispanic-Serving Institutions in Massachusetts. Students were offered up to $3,500 per semester in flexible grant aid, disbursed through existing financial aid processes. Using administrative records from the colleges and the National Student Clearinghouse, Bonilla examined whether students who received the funding persisted in their associate degree and/or completed their degree within three years.
The colloquium, part of a year-long series hosted by CEHD’s School of Education, is free and open to the public. Audience members are also welcome to participate in a discussion with the speaker following the colloquium.
