Gerald Campano of the University of Pennsylvania will present in the School of Education’s series
Join University of Delaware’s College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) for a colloquium with Gerald Campano, professor in the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education, from 1:50 to 2:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, in room 205 of Willard Hall Education Building.
Campano studies how research conducted in partnership with educators, families and communities can advance educational justice while generating new knowledge about teaching and learning. Through work that spans literacy, immigrant education, critical ethnic studies and participatory inquiry, he has helped shape community-engaged research as both a scholarly methodology and a catalyst for educational change.
Campano’s colloquium will provide an overview of lessons learned from two research-practice-partnerships: a 15-year partnership with immigrant families from Philadelphia as they sought to provide educational access for future generations and a decade- long collaboration with a network of educators from the Jalisco region of Mexico who are supporting historically marginalized students. Campano will share important factors for developing and sustaining long-term, mutual research relationships, including an ethics of care and interdependence. He will also discuss impact, the opportunities and challenges of community-engaged research and his efforts to mentor newer scholars in partnership work.
The colloquium, part of a year-long series hosted by CEHD’s School of Education, is free and open to the public. Audience members are also welcome to participate in a discussion with the speaker following the colloquium.
