Presentations

On Nov. 2, 2026, Margaret Stetz, Mae and Robert Carter Professor of Women's Studies and professor of humanities, was an invited participant at an event organized by the International Elizabeth von Arnim Society. The society, which promotes the study of work by the writer Elizabeth von Arnim (1866-1941) – probably best known today for her 1922 novel, Enchanted April – arranged this online event to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the publication of another work of fiction, Introduction to Sally. Stetz spoke about the links between that 1926 novel and an earlier story by the British feminist author Rebecca West, "Indissoluble Matrimony," which had appeared in the radical British journal Blast in 1914, a time when both West and von Arnim were involved romantically with H.G. Wells.

Publications

Rudi Matthee, John and Dorothy Munroe Distinguished Professor of History, had his 2012 study, Persia in Crisis: The Decline of the Safavids and the Fall of Isfahan, come out in a Turkish translation, Safevilerin Gerilemesi ve Isfahan’ın Düşüşü, trans. Aykut Mustak (Istanbul: VakıfBank Kültür Yayınları, 2026).

Heinz-Uwe Haus, professor emeritus of theatre and dance, reviewed in the newest issue of Lumina Lina (An XXXI/4, October - December, 2026, New York), a publication of the Romanian poet-priest Marcel Miron, titled "Semne Contemporare /Gegenwärtige Zeichen," translated by Mircea M. Pop and Joachim Schwietzke, Timpul, Iași, 2024 (bilingual: Romanian and German). The author compels the readers with this collection of poetry into the spaces between the words, committing images of his soul and spirit. And one makes a discovery: "it is worth tracing the secret kinship between poetry and prayer" (Theo Damian).
