Writing Center announces fall programming

Information sessions, workshops and discussion series on AI featured

The UD Writing Center has a full calendar of programs and events this semester to help students and faculty with topics ranging from writing a thesis to strategies for public presentations to how AI affects pedagogy.

The Center will also host several information sessions beginning Wednesday, Sept. 2, for anyone who is curious about learning more about the services and programming it provides. All UD students, faculty and staff are welcome.

Two weekly writing groups — one for graduate students, the other for undergraduates who are writing a senior thesis — will meet throughout the semester. The graduate student group is designed for writers who want the accountability and camaraderie of writing in the company of other graduate students. It will meet Fridays from 9-11 a.m. on Zoom, beginning Sept. 4.

The undergraduate group is ideal for students who want to make steady progress on their thesis, regardless of where they are in the project. It will meet in person on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m., beginning Oct. 4.

Workshops focusing on overcoming the fear of public speaking and crafting personal statements that stand out from the rest will be held in October and November, beginning Monday, Oct. 12.

The Center will hold a monthly discussion group specifically for UD faculty focused on the impact of AI on writing assignments and presentations, beginning Wednesday, Sept. 9. Each session will include information about research on AI and writing/speaking in college from Writing Center administrators, and opportunities for faculty to share their experiences, concerns and pedagogical approaches.
