Lee’s Last Lecture to explore the chance encounters and decisions that shaped his career

The College of Engineering’s Earl “Rusty” Lee will reflect on the small, often unremarkable moments that quietly shaped his path on Wednesday, May 6, from 4 to 6 p.m. in Mitchell Hall. His talk, “The Journey, The Impacts and The Future,” will be livestreamed on UD Live. A reception will follow in Mitchell Hall Lobby.

In this special Last Lecture as he marks his retirement, Lee will draw on a career spanning service in the U.S. Navy, advanced graduate study and nearly two decades at UD. Rather than focusing on formal milestones, he will consider the experiences, decisions and chance encounters that influenced his trajectory, along with the people who helped shape it.

Lee is senior researcher and associate professor emeritus in UD’s Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering. He previously served as a U.S. Navy nuclear officer, retiring at the rank of commander after a 24-year career in active and reserve service. He joined UD in 2007, where he taught, conducted research and held leadership roles, including directing the Delaware Local Technical Assistance Program and the Delaware Center for Transportation.
