Earth Fest highlights sustainable dining and new green restaurant milestone
In celebration of Earth Day, University of Delaware Dining Services invites the campus community to the second annual Earth Fest on Wednesday, April 22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside Russell Dining. The free event features a sustainable, local lunch, hands-on activities such as decorating reusable bags and creating eco‑friendly household items, and a festive atmosphere centered on environmental impact. During Earth Fest, Dining Services will also host a grand reveal celebrating its recent achievement of Green Restaurant Certification®.
This certification, awarded by the Green Restaurant Association, recognizes Dining Services’ comprehensive sustainability efforts across campus. To become a Certified Green Restaurant®, Dining Services earned enough GreenPoints™ across multiple categories, including Energy, Water, Waste, Reusables & Disposables, Chemicals & Pollution, Food, Building & Furnishing, and Education & Transparency.
These initiatives include sourcing local and seasonal foods, reducing food waste, expanding reusable programs, improving energy and water efficiency, and increasing transparency around sustainable practices. Earth Fest offers an opportunity for students to enjoy great food while learning how everyday dining choices contribute to long‑term environmental stewardship at UD.
Join Dining Services this Earth Day to celebrate sustainability, creativity and progress — one meal at a time.
