UDIT launches Generative AI Pilot Program, invites proposal submissions

UD faculty and staff are encouraged to propose innovative projects using generative AI tools

As generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) continues to evolve rapidly, UD Information Technologies (UDIT) is launching a new initiative to explore its potential across academic, research, and administrative settings. In partnership with the First State AI Institute, UDIT is spearheading the Generative AI Pilot Program, inviting proposals to experiment with GenAI tools in meaningful, real-world scenarios.

This pilot aims to help the University better understand where GenAI adds value, what tools best support different use cases, and how these technologies might be integrated thoughtfully and securely across campus. Beyond access to popular AI tools, pilot participants will help shape UD’s long-term strategy for generative AI.

“I view generative AI as more than a trend — it’s a catalyst for innovation,” said Angela Chen, vice president of information technologies and chief information officer at UD. “This pilot program is a critical step in learning how we can leverage AI to strengthen our academic mission, optimize University operations and advance research excellence.”

Who can participate?

The program is open to UD faculty and staff whose projects align with the University’s mission and research goals.

What’s included in the pilot program?

Approved pilot projects will receive GenAI tool licensing. Supported platforms include Copilot for Microsoft 365, NotebookLM Plus and Gemini Pro.

All pilot program members will join a collaborative community that shares insights and lessons learned, helping UD develop a comprehensive picture of GenAI’s evolving capabilities.

How to apply

Ready to explore what GenAI can do for your course, department or research? Proposals can be submitted through the Generative AI Pilot service request form. For proposal guidelines, visit the Generative AI Pilot Service page. UDIT will evaluate submissions to determine feasibility, assign appropriate tools, and provide licensing support for approved projects.

Submit your pilot project idea today and help shape the future of AI at the University of Delaware.
